Charter Boat - Lake Nipigon
Boarding 2.5 hrs (100 miles) from Thunder Bay.
Vessel: the 'Nighthawk Charter II', a 57-foot long, 18-foot wide steel-hulled cruiser built in 1997. Volvo-Penta 220 horsepower diesel motor with a top speed of 13 knots. The vessel is fully equipped with the latest navigational equipment. It sleeps 10 in bunks, has a bathroom with shower, galley and indoor wheelhouse. Other interior features include hardwood floors, white oak sidings and cedar ceilings. It tows several smaller boats for near shore fishing.
Fishing for trout, walleye and northern pike - more and more clients are practicing catch and release.
Lake Nipigon, at 60 by 90 miles in area almost qualifies as another 'Great Lake'. It is relatively undeveloped due to limited road access. The water is clear and clean and offers a wide number of fish species including speckled and lake trout, northern pike, walleye and whitefish. A bounty of wildlife is often seen including pelicans, moose, bear, otter, beaver and occasionally caribou on the northerly island of Lake Nipigon. Meals included, as are overnight accommodations on board and use of small fishing boats. Captain Carroll has a university degree in Biology and has been practising responsible charter fishing on Lake Nipigon since 1979.
